The Braided History

In mathematics, a braid is more than a weave; it is a way of recording time. The algebra of braids shows that when you cross strands, the order of those crossings is crucial. Crossing strand A over B creates a fundamentally different geometry than crossing B over A.
This non-commutative behavior is written as A ⊗ B ≠ B ⊗ A (read as: operation A combined with B is not equal to B combined with A). In topological braids, crossing strand A over B followed by crossing B over A leaves a permanent twist in the system. The sequence is irreversible; you cannot swap the order of events without fundamentally altering the final braided structure, making the braid a perfect physical record of time.
